# Workstations & servers

#### Use cases for workstations and servers show typical scenarios that help you choose the right backup settings for each device type.

***

## Selecting devices to back them up during the backup plan creation process <a href="#selecting_the_devices_to_back_them_up_during_the_backup_plan_creation_process" id="selecting_the_devices_to_back_them_up_during_the_backup_plan_creation_process"></a>

During backup plan creation, in the **Devices** section, **select the appropriate option**. Decide whether you want to back up all devices added to your **Management Service**, specific devices, or a previously created device group.

## Restoring image-level backup from a physical device to a VM <a href="#restoring_the_image-level_backup_from_the_physical_device_to_the_virtual_machine" id="restoring_the_image-level_backup_from_the_physical_device_to_the_virtual_machine"></a>

First, restore the image-level backup as a file (you can find the instructions in [this article](/xopero-one-en/backup-and-recovery/workstations-and-servers/image-level-backup-recovery.md)). When the **image-level backup** is restored successfully, you can start importing it to the selected virtualization environment. During the virtual machine creation process, **select the restored file as the virtual disk**.

## Restoring a VM to a physical device <a href="#restoring_the_virtual_machine_to_the_physical_device" id="restoring_the_virtual_machine_to_the_physical_device"></a>

The first step to restore a virtual machine to a physical host is to install the **Xopero ONE agent** on the VM and **perform an image-level backup, treating the machine as a physical device**.\
When the backup is created successfully, you can start the **BMR** restore process.

## Turning off the device after successfully finished backup <a href="#turning_off_the_device_after_the_successfullu_finished_backup" id="turning_off_the_device_after_the_successfullu_finished_backup"></a>

To shut down the device after a successfully completed backup, configure the appropriate **post-backup script** during the backup plan creation process.
