When using backup software, you are likely interested in how you can use backup and restore data effectively. XoperoONE provides several ways to restore your virtual machines (VMs) directly to Hyper-V hosts. Choose the method that best suits your needs.
Keep in mind that the available restore methods allow you to restore VMs between different Hyper-V hosts if they are connected to the XoperoONE Management Service.
The Instant Restore feature restores the VM's configuration files to the Hyper-V host and prepares a virtual machine while mounting the VM disks directly from storage. The disks are mounted using the iSCSI protocol. This allows you to start your virtual machine in just a few minutes. Since the secured data is still available in the storage, the backup data is not restored anywhere.
This method is designed for disaster recovery purposes and should not be considered a production restoration method.
If you need to restore a virtual machine to Hyper-V after an incident, run the Instant Restore and Whole VM recovery tasks simultaneously. This way, you can use the virtual machine almost immediately through Instant Restore. Once the Whole VM recovery task completes, you can stop the Instant Restore process and use the fully recovered VM in production.
Please note that this is a non-production restore as changes and modifications will not be saved. Changes and modifications are only available within Instant restore session. When you initiate the restore again, the changes will not be visible.
Changes are only written to the hyper-V host's temporary files.
Whole VM recovery allows you to create a new virtual machine in the original location or a different one. This is the most classic way to restore a virtual machine. XoperoONE will restore the VM data directly from the storage to the Hyper-V host
Instant restore is ideal for immediate disaster recovery, providing quick access to your virtual machines within minutes, while Whole machine ensures that your VM is fully restored and ready for production use. By combining both methods, you can quickly recover your Hyper-V virtual machines and minimize downtime in any situation.
